Man Wanted for Armed Robbery in Bellingham Captured in Lowell

LOWELL — A man sought by authorities for robbing a liquor store at gunpoint in Bellingham, Massachusetts, and then fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle, was apprehended by police inside a residence in the Acre neighborhood during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Search and Capture

Agapito Davila, a 41-year-old resident of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, was tracked down to a home on Clare Street, where the Lowell Police, assisted by the Northern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council’s SWAT team, successfully took him into custody without any resistance.

The Crime

The incident that triggered the hunt for Davila occurred on the evening of February 10. Bellingham Police reported that Officer Bradlee Chofay observed a man behaving suspiciously outside the Bellingham Beer and Wine store on North Main Street around 6:45 p.m. Upon checking the registration of the vehicle the suspect drove away in, it was discovered to be stolen.

As officers engaged in a pursuit of the stolen vehicle, they were informed that Bellingham Beer and Wine had just been robbed by a masked individual wielding a firearm.

The pursuit spanned through the neighbouring town of Blackstone and into Woonsocket, Rhode Island, before the suspect abandoned the moving vehicle, allowing it to roll down the street unoccupied. The suspect managed to evade capture at that time.

Identification and Apprehension

Following an investigation by Bellingham Police detectives, with assistance from the State Police Crime Scene Services, Davila was positively identified as the suspect. A warrant for his arrest was promptly issued.

The Bellingham Police took to social media, urging the public to provide any information on Davila’s whereabouts, cautioning that he was armed and dangerous.

On Saturday, authorities received intelligence indicating that Davila was in Lowell. Detectives from the Lowell Police were granted a search warrant, which was swiftly executed, in conjunction with NEMLEC SWAT, shortly after midnight on Sunday.

Legal Proceedings

“We would like to express our gratitude to the community and our law enforcement partners for their efforts in bringing this case to a close,” the Bellingham Police Department stated in a social media post on Sunday evening.

Davila is currently in the custody of the Bellingham Police and is set to appear in Milford District Court on Tuesday to face charges including masked armed robbery, larceny over £1,200, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and receiving stolen property over £1,200.
