Man Arrested for DUI and Possession of Stolen Vehicle After High-Speed Police Pursuit in Sparks, Nevada

The Sparks Police Department in Nevada apprehended a 19-year-old man on charges of driving under the influence (DUI), possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and other offences following a lengthy pursuit on Sunday.

The incident began around 2:00 p.m. when a Sparks police officer in Reno observed a vehicle with a stolen license plate. The driver of the vehicle evaded the officer at high speed, exhibiting reckless driving behaviour.

Instead of engaging in a chase, the officer alerted the Reno Police Department about the situation. Later, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Sparks Police Department received a report of a potential DUI case at a gas station. The description of the vehicle and its license plate matched the earlier incident.

An eyewitness informed the police that the driver and occupants of the vehicle were consuming alcohol while refuelling. They also reported that the driver ran a red light and drove erratically. Upon arriving at Vista and Baring Blvd, SPD officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled once again, disregarding traffic signals and nearly causing collisions.

Despite multiple reports of the vehicle speeding through Sparks, the driver continued to evade the police. The situation escalated when the driver collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Pyramid Highway and Sparks Blvd. Despite losing a tire, the driver continued north until the vehicle became disabled in a nearby neighbourhood.

Upon police arrival, all five occupants of the vehicle fled on foot but were eventually captured. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the entire ordeal.

The driver, identified as Devin Lake, was found to be in possession of stolen license plates and driving a stolen vehicle. Lake faces charges including DUI, eluding police, aggressive driving, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving without a valid license, obstructing an officer, minor in possession of alcohol, and failure to stop at an accident.

The other occupants, all over 18 years old, were charged with failing to stop at a traffic incident, obstructing justice, and underage drinking.
