Man Arrested on Drug Charges in Seaford, Delaware
SEAFORD, DE – A 33-year-old man, William Matthews, from Seaford, was arrested by Delaware State Police on Friday morning on drug and resisting arrest charges.
According to State Police, the arrest took place on Feb. 16 around 10 a.m. when a trooper on patrol near Middleford Road and Old Furnace Road spotted a tan Ford Crown Victoria with an equipment violation. The trooper conducted a traffic stop, and the Ford pulled over at a residence on Hastings Farm Road. Upon stopping, the driver, later identified as William Matthews, fled from the vehicle while holding a green container.
A foot chase ensued into the backyard of the residence as Matthews ignored multiple verbal commands from the trooper. Eventually, Matthews was seen trying to hide the green container under a shed. Despite continued non-compliance, he was apprehended after a taser deployment by the troopers.
Inside the green container, law enforcement found approximately 44 plastic capsules containing crack/cocaine weighing around 23.97 grams, as well as a small amount of marijuana and $111 in cash.

Matthews was then taken to Troop 5, where he faced charges including Possession with Intent to Deliver Controlled Substance Tier 2 Quantity (a felony), Resisting Arrest (a felony), Tampering with Physical Evidence (a felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Operating a Vehicle with Improper Window Tint.
After being arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Matthews was remanded to Sussex Correctional Institution on an $11,000 secured bond.
