Grandmother of Murdered 5-Year-Old Boy Demands Justice
The tragic case of Darnell Taylor, a 5-year-old boy allegedly murdered by his foster mother, has shocked the community in Columbus, Ohio. Shanda McGee, Darnell’s grandmother, is speaking out about the failures of the system that led to her grandson’s untimely death.
McGee had repeatedly expressed concerns to the caseworker at Franklin County Children’s Services about Pammy Maye, the 48-year-old woman who, along with her husband, was the legal guardian of Darnell. Despite McGee’s warnings, Darnell’s body was discovered in a storm drain just five miles from Maye’s home.
The heartbreaking news of Darnell’s disappearance prompted an Amber Alert, with Maye’s husband informing the police that his wife had confessed to killing the young boy before fleeing in a gray Jeep.
Following a search, Maye’s Jeep was located at an apartment complex in Brooklyn, Ohio. Maye was found and arrested on charges of kidnapping and endangering a child, leading to the discovery of Darnell’s body.

McGee expressed her disbelief that someone who was entrusted with caring for Darnell could commit such a heinous act. She recounted the pain of knowing that her grandson’s life was cut short in such a tragic manner.
Both Darnell’s maternal and paternal grandparents had sought visitation rights, claiming that Maye had obstructed their attempts to see the child. Despite their efforts, a court hearing to address the matter was scheduled for March 11.
McGee criticised the caseworker for not taking more decisive action to ensure that the grandparents’ rights were upheld. She believes that more could have been done to prevent the tragedy that befell Darnell.
As McGee seeks justice for her grandson, she is placing her faith in the legal system and in a higher power. Despite the pain and sorrow she feels, she remains hopeful that Darnell’s memory will be honoured and that his tragic death will not be in vain.
