Tragic Accident in Wichita Leaves One Dead

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – UPDATE 2/17/24: The Wichita Police Department (WPD) has confirmed a fatal incident that occurred on the evening of February 17th. An officer from the WPD was driving eastbound along the 1300 block of West MacArthur when their patrol vehicle tragically struck a pedestrian.

The victim, a 51-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The WPD immediately contacted the Kansas Highway Patrol to oversee the ongoing investigation into the circumstances leading up to the tragic event.

As a result of the accident, road closures have been implemented from Seneca to Fern. Authorities are urging drivers to steer clear of the area to allow emergency responders to attend to the situation.

According to reports from Sedgwick County Dispatch, the collision between the vehicle and pedestrian occurred in Southwest Wichita. The call reporting the incident was received shortly before 8 p.m. in the 1300 block of West MacArthur.
