Two individuals were discovered deceased inside a dormitory at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Friday, with authorities confirming that the incident is being treated as a homicide rather than a murder-suicide, suggesting it was an isolated event.

The Colorado Springs Police Department, in a statement on Sunday, named the victims as Samuel Knopp, 24, from Parker, Colorado, and Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, from Pueblo, Colorado.

According to the police, Knopp was a student at the university, while Montgomery was not affiliated with the institution.

Shortly before 6 a.m. on Friday, campus police received a report of gunshots coming from the Crestone House dormitory on campus.

The campus was briefly placed on lockdown on Friday, which was subsequently lifted after around an hour and a half.

Following the shooting, the campus was closed for the remainder of the day.

The Colorado Springs Police Department was requested to assist, with the department’s homicide unit assuming control of the investigation.
