A man in Calhoun County, Florida, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, among other charges, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident took place on Coley Road in Kinard, where deputies were conducting proactive patrols following complaints from local residents about drug dealing in the area. Deputy Kever and Deputy Ayers were on patrol in an unmarked vehicle when they encountered a dangerous situation.

As they drove down Coley Road, the deputies noticed a flashlight north of the road. Suddenly, they heard gunshots and saw bullets flying near their vehicle. In a moment of fear, they sped away from the area to avoid danger, only to return minutes later.

They found a white pickup truck blocking the road, with the driver identified as Philip Richard Quaglino. Inside the truck, multiple firearms, including a black Spring Field Armory AR-15, were discovered. Quaglino claimed he was night hunting possums, but the deputies were concerned for their safety.

Quaglino admitted to firing the gun because he had issues with unknown vehicles and drug dealers in the area. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, reckless discharge of a firearm under the influence of alcohol, shooting into a vehicle, and more.
