Accident – Death – Obituary News : Burnsville, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities have now identified the brave individuals who tragically lost their lives in a devastating incident that occurred early Sunday morning in Burnsville, Minnesota. According to a news release issued by the City of Burnsville, the fatal events unfolded in response to a domestic abuse call at a residence in the 12600 block of 33rd Avenue South around 1:50 a.m.

Initial reports indicated that an armed man had barricaded himself inside the home with family members. As police and emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the situation escalated into gunfire, resulting in the loss of Burnsville Police Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, as well as Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Finseth. Additionally, Sgt. Adam Medlicott was also injured by gunfire and is currently receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The City of Burnsville provided a brief overview of the fallen first responders. Elmstrand, 27, had been with the Burnsville Police Department since August 2017 and was involved in various units within the department. Ruge, 27, joined the department in April 2020 and was part of the crisis negotiations team. Finseth, 40, had been serving as a Burnsville Firefighter/Paramedic since February 2019.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) confirmed that the gunman involved in the incident died in the exchange of gunfire, although his identity has not been disclosed. The state agency is conducting a thorough investigation into the tragic event and intends to release more information upon the completion of the preliminary inquiry.

The community of Burnsville and beyond mourn the loss of these dedicated public servants and express their deepest condolences to their families and loved ones during this difficult time.
