Man Dead, Another Arrested in Newton Grove Arson and Assault Incident

A male individual has tragically lost his life and another has been apprehended following a disturbing arson and assault occurrence at a residence in Newton Grove. The circumstances surrounding this harrowing incident remain unclear as the investigation unfolds.

Early Morning Tragedy Unfolds

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday, the Sampson County E-911 Center received a distressing call reporting an assault victim and a house fire with an individual trapped inside at 3146 Alex Benton Road, just on the outskirts of Newton Grove. Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officials, firefighters, and emergency medical services personnel discovered an injured female in the yard of a mobile home that was engulfed in flames. Tragically, a male individual was found deceased inside the residence.

Arrest Made in Connection with Incident

Perry Rendel Folger, aged 46 and residing on Panhandle Road in Faison, was taken into custody on Sunday in connection with the events that transpired at the Alex Benton Road property. At present, Folger is being held for charges of burglary and felony assault.

The deceased male has been identified as Harry Nathaniel Taylor, aged 64, of 3146 Alex Benton Road, Newton Grove. The injured female, identified as Elven Franklin, aged 69 and also a resident of the Alex Benton Road address, was transported to a regional hospital for medical attention.
