Police identified the arrested duo as N Anandakumar, 45, and his son A Jeevanantham, 22, both residents of MSR Puram in Mettupalayam.

According to a police officer, the duo were held for the murder of S Hakkim, 38, a porter from MSR Puram. Hakkim, who was undergoing de-addiction treatment, was found dead at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital.

Investigations revealed that Hakkim had a confrontation with Anandakumar and Jeevanantham in an inebriated state near Mettupalayam bus stand on February 14. The altercation escalated, leading to a physical assault where the duo kicked Hakkim in the abdominal area.

Hakkim’s son, S Abbas, reported the incident to the police after his father’s death, prompting authorities to change the case to Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Anandakumar and Jeevanantham were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
