Dramatic Police Body Camera Footage Reveals High-Speed Chase in Los Angeles
In a series of heart-stopping events that unfolded during a high-speed chase in Los Angeles last month, new police body camera footage has captured the intense moments that transpired, including a dangerous crash and a shooting in the street.
The incident took place on Jan. 14, just before 9 a.m., when officers from LAPD’s Rampart Division observed the driver of a blue Audi SUV driving erratically near 6th Street and Witmer Avenue.
According to authorities, surveillance footage captured the moment when the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Marc Gonzales, allegedly took the SUV from a garage without the owner’s consent.

As the chase ensued, a police officer collided with a light pole, adding to the intensity of the situation. An LAPD air unit joined the pursuit, tracking Gonzales from above as he reportedly fired a gun randomly, hitting a man inside a stationary truck at a traffic light. The harrowing moment was captured by a camera inside the truck’s cab.
The injured man was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged.
The chase ultimately came to a halt at Hooper Avenue and 12th Street, as Gonzales lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a curb. Exiting the SUV armed with a handgun, Gonzales proceeded to walk towards a Rampart unit that had arrived at the scene.
Despite repeated commands from officers to drop the weapon, Gonzales failed to comply and raised the handgun, leading to an officer-involved shooting. He sustained at least two gunshot wounds and collapsed on the sidewalk before being rushed to the hospital in stable condition and subsequently taken into custody.
Fortunately, no officers sustained serious injuries during the incident, and a Glock 9-millimeter semiautomatic handgun was recovered from the scene. The comprehensive investigation into the matter will undergo scrutiny by the Chief of Police, the Board of Police Commissioners, and the Office of the Inspector General.
