Arson Incident at Local Salina Motel

Salina Police Officers were called to a disturbance at a local motel in Salina, where a man’s pants were set on fire in an apparent arson incident.

The incident took place at 453 South Broadway Blvd at around 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15. The victim, a 48-year-old man from Salina, reported that a 38-year-old woman, identified as Kelsey Hathaway, had deliberately set fire to his jeans.

According to Officer Feldman, Hathaway was seated next to the victim when she used a lighter to ignite his pants. The fire lasted for approximately 30 seconds before it was extinguished. Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any injuries and did not require medical attention.

Suspect’s Arrest and Further Altercation

Following the incident, Hathaway was taken into custody and transported to Salina Regional Health Center for evaluation. However, while at the hospital, she became agitated and spat on a 23-year-old nurse, striking her in the face and upper body.

Officer Feldman revealed that both parties admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the altercation. Hathaway has been detained on charges of aggravated arson and battery.
