Deadly Vehicle Crash in Iredell County Leaves One Dead and Four Injured

Charlotte, N.C. (WBTV) – Tragedy struck in Iredell County as one person lost their life and four others sustained injuries in a devastating vehicle crash, as reported by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The incident unfolded at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, on I-40 west near mile marker 156 in Iredell County, prompting a swift response from the NC State Highway Patrol.

According to authorities, a Subaru Forester was travelling in the left lane when it collided with a car hauler trailer being towed by a Dodge Ram 3500. The Ram 3500 had run out of fuel and had pulled into the median, with part of the trailer still obstructing the travel lanes.

The impact of the collision caused the Forester to crash into a Toyota RAV4 that was also travelling west on I-40.

Tragically, the driver of the Forester, identified as Justin Wilson, aged 34, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Three juveniles who were in the vehicle were taken to Brenner Children’s Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Fortunately, the driver of the Ram 3500 emerged unscathed from the crash. The driver of the RAV4 and a passenger were also taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Following an initial investigation, authorities have ruled out impairment or excessive speed as contributing factors to the collision. It was noted that all occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, as confirmed by the highway patrol.
