On a sunny Thursday afternoon in Davenport, Florida, a 19-year-old man from Kissimmee found himself in hot water after troopers discovered bags full of marijuana in his car. The Florida Highway Patrol was on the lookout when they spotted a silver 4-door car with dark tinted windows and a windshield that was completely tinted below the AS-1 line, headed north on US-27 and Posner Blvd.
Troopers Make a Discovery
The trooper wasted no time in pulling over the suspicious vehicle and approaching the driver’s side around 12:30 p.m. What they found inside the car was enough to raise suspicion – a strong smell of fresh marijuana wafting through the air. The driver, later identified as Joan Omar Torres, was asked to roll down the back windows so the trooper could get a better look inside.

Upon further investigation, Torres admitted to having marijuana in his possession. The trooper then asked Torres and his 18-year-old female passenger to step out of the vehicle for a closer inspection. During a pat-down, the trooper discovered a bulge in Torres’ pocket, which turned out to be more weed.
A Shocking Discovery
The search of the vehicle yielded even more incriminating evidence. Troopers found several pieces of marijuana scattered throughout the front driver and passenger side of the car. Additionally, an empty black plastic bag in the back seat emitted a strong marijuana odor.
The Arrest
Further investigation revealed two gray trash bags in the trunk, containing vacuum-sealed black plastic bags labeled with various strains of marijuana. Testing confirmed the presence of more than 1% delta-9 THC, totaling 4.75 pounds of marijuana. Torres was arrested on the spot and taken to the Polk County Jail to face charges.
Legal Troubles
Torres now faces several charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana over 20 grams, manufacture deliver narcotic paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license. The passenger, who claimed ignorance of the drugs’ origin, was also questioned by law enforcement.
Authorities believe the marijuana was intended for sale, highlighting the prevalence of illegal drug distribution in the area. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in Florida.
