Man Arrested in Connection to 2022 Murder Case in Killeen, Texas

A 38-year-old man from Killeen has been taken into custody and charged in relation to a murder case from 2022. The suspect, identified as Demetris Tyrone Prier, was already being held on unrelated charges when the arrest warrant was issued.

The incident dates back to June 24, 2022, when Killeen police responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 1800 block of N. 4th Street at approximately 2:50 a.m. The victim, 55-year-old Joe Sidney Williams, was found with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save his life and subsequent medical treatment, Williams tragically passed away on August 3, 2022.

Following Williams’ death, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division Robbery-Homicide Unit took over the case. An autopsy conducted by Justice of the Peace Theodore Duffield confirmed that Williams had been murdered. Subsequently, on January 19, 2024, a complaint was filed against Prier for the murder of Williams, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson.

Prier appeared before Justice of the Peace Keith Reed for arraignment, where his bond was set at $500,000. The Killeen Police Department is actively investigating the case and urges anyone with information pertaining to the murder to come forward.
