The fatal incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in University Village, where a 19-year-old man was shot in the chest and shoulder following an argument with another individual. The victim, identified as Damian Gomez by the Cook County Medical Examiner, was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries later that night.

The shooting took place on the 1900-block of West Hastings Street on the West Side of Chicago at approximately 6:32 p.m.

Authorities have not yet made any arrests in connection with the incident, and it remains unclear whether the victim and the shooter were acquainted prior to the deadly altercation.

This latest spate of gun violence comes on the heels of a similarly disturbing trend from the previous weekend, during which at least 18 people were shot, one of whom did not survive, as reported by the Chicago Police Department.

As the city grapples with escalating levels of violence, concerned residents are encouraged to stay informed about crime and safety in their neighbourhoods through the Interactive Safety Tracker provided by local authorities.
