Accident – Death – Obituary News : ATLANTA — A teenager was apprehended following a dramatic sequence of events that unfolded during an alleged drug deal in northwest Atlanta. The incident occurred on February 12th at approximately 5:19 p.m. when an Atlanta police officer observed a teen engaging in illicit drug transactions outside a store on Joseph E Boone Blvd.

The teenager, later identified as Damarion Florence, attempted to flee when approached by officers, sparking a brief foot pursuit. Body camera footage captured the moment when the officer caught up to Florence and attempted to make an arrest, only to be met with resistance.

During the struggle, it was discovered that Florence was in possession of a concealed firearm, which he reached for in the midst of the altercation. In a tense moment, the officer managed to disarm Florence, resulting in a single shot being fired without causing harm to either party.

Additional officers swiftly arrived on the scene and successfully apprehended Florence. A subsequent search revealed that the recovered handgun was equipped with a machine gun conversion device, commonly referred to as a switch.

Florence now faces a slew of charges including felony obstruction, possession of a machine gun, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, reckless conduct, and possession of marijuana.

In a separate incident, Clayton County sheriff provides Channel 2 with an exclusive tour of the county jail, attributing the facility’s challenges to a lack of funding from local officials.
