The officer in question, identified as 23-year-old Christopher Eugene Sanspree Jr., allegedly made at least six calls to the Prattville police over a span of three months, starting in October 2023. These calls reported fictitious emergencies such as shootings, car break-ins, and individuals carrying machetes. Such false reports, commonly referred to as “swatting,” can trigger heavily armed police responses, placing both law enforcement officers and civilians at risk.

Of particular concern is the fact that Sanspree was on duty with the Montgomery Police Department when he made these calls. Following his arrest and subsequent release on bond, he is now facing internal disciplinary action within his own department.

Chief Mark Thompson of the Prattville Police Department expressed dismay at the incident, noting that Sanspree allegedly found amusement in his actions. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of Sanspree’s involvement and to explore potential connections to similar incidents outside of Alabama.

Thompson emphasised the serious consequences of swatting, highlighting the potential for violence and the strain it puts on law enforcement resources. He voiced disappointment at the negative impact such actions have on the reputation of police officers nationwide.

The investigation is still ongoing, with efforts focused on uncovering the truth behind these alarming events..
