DENVER (KDVR) — Police in Denver have issued an arrest warrant for a former funeral home owner after the discovery of human remains at his former residence.

The Denver Police Department issued the warrant for 33-year-old Miles Harford on charges of abuse of a corpse, forgery, and theft. The investigation revealed a woman’s remains and over two dozen sets of cremated remains on a property from which Harford was evicted.

Prior interactions with Harford led authorities to believe he is still in the Denver area. However, his current whereabouts remain unknown. Harford owned the Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services in Littleton, which closed in September 2022 due to financial difficulties.

Discovery of Remains

On February 6, Denver police and the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner responded to a home on South Quitman Street following reports of a suspicious incident. The discovery included boxes of cremated remains found by a person cleaning the property after Harford’s eviction.

Cmdr. Matt Clark stated during a press conference that the homeowner found temporary urns containing cremated human remains in a crawlspace. Nearly thirty urns were recovered, with some found empty.

Body Found in Hearse

Further inspection of a hearse on the property led to the discovery of a deceased woman’s body and additional cremated remains. The woman, identified as 63-year-old Christina Rosales, passed away in August 2022 from natural causes. Authorities believe her body had been stored in the hearse since her passing.

Family members of Rosales indicated that Harford had provided them with what they believed to be her cremated remains. However, authorities determined that the remains given to the family belonged to someone else.

George Rosales, Christina’s husband, expressed his devastation at the situation, stating, “You shouldn’t have to die twice.” He recounted his wife’s trust in Harford to handle her funeral arrangements.

Continued Investigation

Police also searched a U-Haul parked outside the property and found six more urns containing cremated remains. Authorities suspect these remains belong to at least 30 individuals who passed away between 2012 and 2021.

Efforts are underway to identify the remains through state databases and urn information for their eventual return to families. Denver Police urge clients of Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services with concerns or missing remains to contact the Major Crimes Division and Victim Assistance Unit.

Appeal for Information

Individuals with additional information are encouraged to reach out to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers anonymously for a potential reward. Notably, there is no link between this case and the funeral home investigation in Fremont County.
