Former Funeral Home Owner Wanted by Police After Human Remains Found at Former Denver Home

Authorities in Denver have issued an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Miles Harford, a former funeral home owner, on charges of abuse of a corpse, forgery, and theft. The warrant comes after the discovery of human remains at a property from which Harford was evicted.

According to the Denver Police Department, the investigation revealed the presence of a woman’s remains, as well as the professionally cremated remains of over two dozen individuals, at the property linked to Harford. Harford, who previously owned Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services in Littleton, is believed to be in the Denver area, although his current whereabouts remain unknown.

Discovery of Remains Following Eviction

On February 6, authorities were alerted to a potential crime scene at a residence on South Quitman Street. The property was being cleaned out after Harford’s eviction when boxes of cremated remains were found, prompting the call to law enforcement.

Cmdr. Matt Clark of the Denver Police Department revealed that numerous temporary urns containing cremated human remains were discovered in a crawlspace at the property. While nearly thirty urns were found, some were empty, indicating a disturbing pattern of mishandling human remains.

Unsettling Discovery in Parked Hearse

Further investigation led authorities to a hearse parked at the property, where the body of a deceased woman and additional cremated remains were found. The woman, identified as 63-year-old Christina Rosales, passed away from natural causes in August 2022. It is believed that her body had been stored in the hearse since shortly after her death, concealed from view.

Family members of Christina Rosales were shocked to learn that the remains previously given to them by Harford were not those of their loved one. This revelation has left them with the difficult task of arranging a proper burial for Christina, whose body was found unceremoniously stored in the hearse parked outside.

George Rosales, Christina’s husband, expressed his dismay at the situation, stating, “We were misguided. Just knowing she was in the back of the car, hearse, outside, just covered with a blanket. That’s not how someone is supposed to be put to rest.”

Authorities executed a search warrant on a U-Haul truck parked on the property, uncovering six more urns containing cremated remains. The investigation indicates that the remains of at least thirty individuals who passed away between 2012 and 2021 have been recovered.

Efforts are now underway to identify the remains through state databases and information on the urns, with the aim of reuniting them with their families.

Clients Urged to Contact Authorities

Denver Police are urging clients of Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services who have concerns or did not receive the remains of their loved ones to contact the Major Crimes Division and Victim Assistance Unit at 720-913-6610. While DNA testing may not be feasible for all remains due to the cremation process, authorities are committed to resolving the situation and providing closure to affected families.

Individuals with information relevant to the case are encouraged to reach out to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can choose to remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward for their assistance.

It is important to note that the ongoing investigation in Denver is not linked to a separate funeral home inquiry in Fremont County, providing a distinct focus for law enforcement efforts.
