Former Funeral Home Owner Wanted by Police After Human Remains Found in Denver Property

DENVER (KDVR) — Authorities in Denver have issued an arrest warrant for a former funeral home owner, Miles Harford, after the discovery of human remains at his former residence in the city. The Denver Police Department has charged Harford with abuse of a corpse, forgery, and theft.

Police investigators found the remains of a woman, as well as the cremated remains of over twenty individuals, at a property from which Harford was evicted. Harford, who is 33 years old, was the owner of Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services in Littleton, which closed in September 2022 due to financial difficulties.

Discovery of Remains Following Eviction

The investigation began on February 6 when authorities were called to Harford’s former home on South Quitman Street on reports of a suspicious incident. During the search, police found several boxes in a crawlspace containing temporary urns holding cremated human remains. Nearly thirty temporary urns were discovered, some of which were empty.

Additionally, a hearse parked at the property was inspected, revealing the body of a deceased woman and more cremated remains. The body found in the hearse was identified as a 63-year-old woman who had passed away from natural causes in August 2022. Authorities believe the body had been stored in the hearse since shortly after the woman’s death.

Family Misled Regarding Cremated Remains

Investigators contacted the family of the deceased woman, Christina Rosales, who revealed that Harford had provided them with what they believed to be her cremated remains. However, it was later determined that the remains given to the family belonged to another individual.

George Rosales, Christina’s husband, expressed his shock at the situation, stating, “It’s a hard thing to take in and rebury my wife again.” He recounted how his wife trusted Harford to handle her funeral arrangements, only to discover that she had not been laid to rest properly.

Search Warrant Reveals More Cremated Remains

Further investigation led to the discovery of six urns containing additional cremated remains inside a U-Haul parked outside the property. Police suspect that they have recovered the remains of at least thirty individuals who passed away between 2012 and 2021.

Authorities are now cross-referencing state databases and information on the urns to identify the remains and return them to their respective families. Clients of Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services who have concerns or did not receive the remains of their loved ones are urged to contact the Denver Police Major Crimes Division and Denver Police Victim Assistance Unit.

While DNA testing will not be conducted on unlabeled remains due to the loss of DNA after cremation, investigators are working diligently to resolve this unsettling situation.
