A wanted woman has been taken into custody after a tragic hit-and-run incident in Asheboro, North Carolina, resulted in the death of a pedestrian, identified as 45-year-old Billy Glenn Medford, Jr.

The incident occurred at around 4:17 a.m. on Friday on Oakland Avenue, where deputies responded to a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian and fleeing the scene. Upon arrival, they found Medford lying unresponsive on the ground.

Despite the efforts of EMS, Medford was airlifted to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Following an investigation, 44-year-old Lashanda Kay Schwarcbher, also known as Lashanda or Lashonda Kay Hicks, was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Initially evading authorities, Schwarcbher was eventually apprehended by the Criminal Apprehension Team on Robbin Lane in New London on Saturday.

She is currently being held without bond at the detention center and is set to appear in Randolph County District Court on Monday. The investigation is ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges being brought against her.
