A tragic incident occurred in East Tremont on Friday night, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old man named William Cruz. The NYPD reported that Cruz was riding a gas-powered moped down Park Avenue when he collided with a black sedan on East 183rd Street. Despite being conscious and alert when first responders arrived, Cruz succumbed to his injuries at SBH Health System.
The driver of the sedan callously fled the scene, last seen turning right on Washington Avenue. This callous act has left the community in shock and mourning for the loss of Cruz.

The lack of accountability from the driver has left authorities with no leads, as no arrests have been made at this time. The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is actively investigating this fatal hit-and-run incident in hopes of bringing justice to Cruz and his loved ones.
