Man Seriously Injured in East Providence Stabbing, Suspect Arrested

On Friday evening in East Providence, Rhode Island, a violent incident unfolded resulting in one man being seriously injured and another man arrested in connection with the stabbing.

Details of the Incident

The East Providence Police Department received two emergency calls at 7:00 p.m. reporting an assault involving a knife. One call originated from Crescent Ave. in the Riverside area of the city, while the second call came from the parking lot of the Cumberland Farms store at the intersection of Pawtucket Ave. and Wampanoag Trail.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the victim of the stabbing in the Cumberland Farms parking lot. The victim had suffered multiple stab wounds and was bleeding heavily. Immediate medical attention was provided by officers and later by the East Providence Fire Department. The victim was then rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Arrest of the Suspect

Following the incident, an investigation was launched which led to the identification of the suspect as 25-year-old Valdini Correia from North Providence. It was revealed that Correia had entered the residence without permission and attacked the male victim without any provocation before fleeing the scene. The investigation indicated that the incident stemmed from a domestic situation involving an ex-girlfriend.

Approximately one hour after the stabbing, Correia was apprehended by the North Providence Police Department without resistance. Subsequently, he was taken into custody by the East Providence Police.

Legal Charges

In connection with the stabbing incident, Correia has been charged with several offences including Domestic Burglary, Assault With Intent to Commit a Felony, Assault With a Deadly Weapon in a Dwelling, Weapons Other Than Firearms Prohibited, and Domestic Disorderly Conduct.

Correia appeared for an arraignment at the East Providence Police Department and was remanded in custody without bail.
