JACKSONVILLE, Fla — A fatal traffic crash took place Friday night at approximately 09:45 p.m. in the 9300 block of Atlantic Blvd in Jacksonville.

According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, a motorcyclist was travelling westbound on Atlantic Blvd when a gray Toyota 4 door vehicle exited a shopping center northbound on Beacon Point Rd. The Toyota attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Atlantic Blvd and stopped mid-turn, resulting in a collision with the motorcyclist.

The impact of the crash caused the rider to be thrown from the motorcycle. Emergency services rushed the individual to a local hospital where he was sadly pronounced deceased. The victim has been identified as a man in his mid-twenties.

The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. There are no signs of impairment reported in relation to the driver. The 9300 block of Atlantic Blvd was temporarily closed in all directions as detectives conducted their investigation, but all roads have since been reopened.

This tragic incident marks the 21st traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the second involving a motorcyclist. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.
