Sterling House Explosion Claims the Life of Firefighter Trevor Brown

In a tragic turn of events, a house explosion in Sterling, Virginia on Friday night resulted in the death of firefighter Trevor Brown, aged 45. The incident also left 10 firefighters and two other individuals injured. Emergency crews rushed to the scene to deal with the aftermath of the explosion.

The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) received a call just before 7:40 p.m. reporting a gas leak outside a residential property in Sterling. Upon arrival, members of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company discovered a 500-gallon underground propane tank leaking gas. The situation escalated rapidly, leading to a catastrophic explosion that claimed the life of firefighter Trevor Brown and resulted in multiple injuries.

Following the explosion, emergency crews, including the Loudoun County’s Hazardous Materials Response Team, additional units from Sterling and South Riding, as well as command staff members and safety officers, were deployed to the site to manage the situation. A Rapid Intervention Task Force and a second alarm were also requested, bringing in additional units from Fairfax County and the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority.

Rescue operations were immediately initiated to locate and extract trapped firefighters from the debris. Tragically, Trevor Brown lost his life in the line of duty, while 10 other firefighters and two civilians sustained injuries of varying degrees. The injured individuals were promptly transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the source and cause of the explosion. In a statement, LCFR expressed gratitude for the support received from the community and public safety partners during this challenging time.
