Accident – Death – Obituary News : An unfortunate tragedy struck a private fireworks factory unit in Kundayiruppu near Sattur in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district, resulting in the loss of ten lives and injuring three others. The explosion, which occurred at the Winner Fireworks facility around 12:30 p.m., caused extensive damage to five out of the 70 buildings on the premises.

Upon arrival at the Sivakasi government hospital, nine individuals were pronounced dead, with one more succumbing to injuries while receiving treatment. The victims were identified as S. Ramesh, 28; A. Karuppasamy, 23; R. Ambika, 30; M. Muthu, 28; K. Aberaj, 62; T. Murugajothi, 48; V. Santharoobi, 43; M. Gurusamy, 52; M. Muniyasamy, 44; and R. Jeya. The three individuals with burn injuries, admitted to Virudhunagar and Sivakasi government hospitals, were named as S. Sivakumar, 29; M. Muthukumar, 30; and S. Rengammal, 55.

Despite the efforts of rescue and fire service teams from Vembakottai and Sivakasi, the Alangulam police, responsible for investigating the incident, have yet to file a case. While the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization conducted an inspection at the cracker unit, details of their findings remain undisclosed.

According to a police official and several workers, the presence of more workers than permitted within the unit’s rooms contributed to the tragic event. In response to the incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced financial aid of ₹3 lakh for each deceased worker’s family and ₹1 lakh for each injured individual.
