Terica Scott, who is related to the two minor suspects and acquainted with the victim’s mother, has been taken into custody, according to a report by WAFB

Details of the Incident

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call at a residence on O’Neal Lane on Monday, February 12. Upon arrival, they discovered a three-year-old girl who was unresponsive and in critical condition. The child had sustained a brain bleed, facial abrasions, and bruises consistent with blunt force trauma. Tragically, despite medical efforts, the child succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, February 14.

Shockingly, deputies found eight young children, ranging from 11 months to 12 years old, left unattended in the house for several hours on the day of the incident.

When questioned, Terica Scott admitted to having just returned from a casino, leaving the children unsupervised. As a result, she was issued a desertion summons.

Identifying the Suspects

Subsequent investigations led to the identification of the other suspects involved in this tragic incident. Two juveniles, a 10-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy, who were left alone with the other children, were arrested on Friday, February 16. They were charged with simple battery and second-degree murder.

Terica Scott, aware of the violent tendencies of the young suspects, was booked into the EBR Parish Prison for her involvement in the crime. The sheriff’s office has indicated that additional arrests are imminent.

Sheriff Sid Gautreaux expressed his profound sorrow over the events, stating, “Cases like this are devastating. My heart goes out to the innocent child who was taken too soon, and I urge anyone with knowledge of child abuse or neglect to report it immediately to law enforcement.”
