Man Arrested for Murdering Five Persons in Chengalpattu

The Chengalpattu police have apprehended a 42-year-old man believed to be responsible for the deaths of five individuals, with plans to execute another in Namakkal. The suspect, identified as S. Suresh Kumar from P.V. Kalathur in Chengalpattu district, has been taken into custody.

Notably, Suresh Kumar’s brother, S. Vijayakumar, who served as the village panchayat president, was brutally murdered in 2012 by a six-member gang in a public setting, allegedly due to disputes over sand mining in the Palar bed.

Following his brother’s tragic demise, Suresh Kumar reportedly vowed to seek vengeance and eliminate the group responsible for the heinous act. Despite the arrest of the six-member gang in connection with the murder, they were subsequently released on bail, prompting Suresh Kumar to take matters into his own hands.

Over the years, a series of murders ensued, with Kuppan, an alleged member of the gang involved in Vijayakumar’s killing, being the first victim in 2014. Subsequently, Duraidass met a similar fate in Guindy, followed by Nithyanandam in P.V. Kalathur, Chandru in Chennai in 2015, and finally, Sekar in broad daylight in Chengalpattu district the following year.

Authorities have indicated that the final member of the gang, Venkatesan, is currently on the run. Suresh Kumar, who was arrested for the murders at various intervals, managed to carry out the crimes while out on bail. After the killing of Sekar, he fled the scene.

Recently, police investigations led to the discovery of Venkatesan’s whereabouts in Namakkal, prompting concerns that Suresh Kumar may have been planning another murder. Acting swiftly, a special police team descended on the location and apprehended Suresh Kumar without incident.
