Man Charged in Fatal Shooting in Kansas City
A tragic incident unfolded in Kansas City on the early morning of February 12, 2024, as a fatal shooting took place in the vicinity of 50th and Bellefontaine Avenue. According to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, a Kansas City man has now been charged in connection with the incident.
The accused, Charlie L Bowman, aged 56, has been charged with Murder in the 2nd Degree, Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. The charges have been filed based on evidence gathered by the Kansas City Police Department.
Court records reveal that officers responded to a dispatch call and discovered a victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. Sadly, despite the prompt arrival of responders, the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The police investigation led officers to Bowman, who remained at the scene. Video footage obtained from the area shows a vehicle arriving, followed by another vehicle. The victim is seen exiting the second vehicle and approaching the driver’s door of the first vehicle, identified as a Buick. A witness stated that the victim approached the car where the defendant was sitting and was shot twice. In her attempt to flee, she collapsed on the sidewalk.

Victim Identified as Ruth A. Bowman
The identity of the victim in this tragic incident has been confirmed as 57-year-old Ruth A. Bowman. The shooting took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday, and the Kansas City Police Department responded to the scene at 50th and Bellefontaine.
First responders immediately attended to the unresponsive victim, who was found on the sidewalk north of the intersection. Despite their efforts and the arrival of EMS, she was declared deceased.
Upon their arrival, responding officers detained two individuals for further investigation. Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators meticulously processed the scene, collecting evidence and conducting interviews with potential witnesses. At this time, the police have not made any arrests or released additional details regarding the incident.
