CLEARLAKE MAN ARRESTED FOR HIT AND RUN AFTER PEDESTRIAN INJURED

A man from Clearlake has been taken into custody for felony hit and run following a serious incident involving a pedestrian on Wednesday evening.

Oscar Rosas, aged 45, surrendered himself to authorities a day after the collision, which took place on Highway 20 near Upper Lake, east of Bridge Arbor Drive.

The pedestrian who sustained injuries in the accident has been identified as 27-year-old Omar Romero from Lakeport, as confirmed by the California Highway Patrol’s Clear Lake Area office.

According to reports from the CHP, officers were called to the scene of a hit and run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, amidst rainy and dark weather conditions.

Preliminary investigations by the CHP revealed that a blue SUV struck Romero, who was walking south within the eastbound lanes of Highway 20 at the time of the incident.

Following the collision, the vehicle fled the scene heading eastbound on Highway 20, leaving Romero with severe injuries.

Romero was rushed to Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport with major injuries, including various blunt force trauma and a broken neck, as stated by the CHP.

Initial efforts to locate the vehicle involved in the hit and run led officers to an address linked to the blue SUV, but the vehicle was not found at that time.

At 5:25 p.m. the next day, the CHP’s Ukiah Communications Center received a call from Rosas, who expressed his desire to surrender himself to the authorities, admitting that his blue 2007 Ford Escape was implicated in the incident.

CHP officers promptly responded to Rosas’ residence in Clearlake, where the Ford Escape was found with damage consistent with the hit and run collision.

Rosas was subsequently arrested for felony hit and run just after 6:30 p.m. and taken to Lake County Jail for processing, according to the CHP.
