Winnipeg, MB – In the early hours of February 15, 2024, the peaceful neighborhood of the 300 block of Magnus Avenue in Winnipeg became the scene of a horrifying incident that shook the community to its core.

As the sun had yet to rise, the tranquillity of the residential area was shattered by the sound of sirens and flashing lights as the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a distress call reporting an armed intrusion at a local residence.

Details of the Tragic Incident and Victim Identification

Upon reaching the home, officers were met with a harrowing sight – the lifeless body of 26-year-old Mitchell Michael HANSLIP, a member of the Lake Manitoba First Nation who had made Winnipeg his home.

The heart-wrenching event unfolded around 2:40 a.m. when a group of individuals forced their way into the property, brandishing weapons that included a firearm. Tragically, a violent confrontation ensued, leading to the fatal shooting of HANSLIP.

Swift Action Leads to Suspect Apprehension and Charges

Responding with efficiency and determination, General Patrol officers, with the support of the Flight Operations unit, managed to catch three men as they attempted to flee the scene.

One of the suspects was found in possession of a firearm, leading to the arrest and subsequent charging of Isaiah Adrian MOOSE, 23, Sydney Vain MOOSE, 22, and Ashtan Cole PETERS, 28, with 2nd Degree Murder. The trio is currently in police custody pending further legal proceedings.

Additional Charges and Ongoing Police Investigation

As the investigation progresses, additional charges, such as possession of a weapon, possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm or ammunition, and failure to comply with release and probation orders, have been laid against the suspects. The Homicide Unit of the Winnipeg Police Service is leaving no stone unturned in its quest for justice.
