Paramus, New Jersey Man Arrested for Murder of 61-Year-Old
A man from Paramus, New Jersey, has been arrested for the murder of a 61-year-old man whose body was found in a house, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
On Friday evening, the Paramus Police Department responded to a call reporting a possible homicide at 693 Bruce Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of Manuel Thomas, 61, in the basement of the home, with multiple stab wounds. Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspect in Custody
Shortly after the discovery of the body, authorities identified 32-year-old Melvin Thomas as a suspect in the case. Melvin was taken into custody and has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree desecration of human remains, second-degree hindering, and two possession of a weapon charges.
While the district attorney’s office did not provide details on the relationship between the victim and the defendant, a neighbour revealed that a father and son resided in the home where the tragic incident took place.
Legal Proceedings
Melvin Thomas is currently being held at Bergen County Jail pending his first court appearance. The investigation into the murder is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover more details about the motive behind the crime.
Property records indicate that Manuel Thomas was the owner of the home where his body was found, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
