BEXAR COUNTY, Texas: Two Arrested in Connection with Murder Case of Man Found Shot to Death

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has made significant progress in the investigation of a man found shot to death on a rural road in late January. Deputies have arrested two men, James Guerra, 39, and 18-year-old Matthew Fitzgerald Williams, who have been linked to a robbery case.

Sheriff Javier Salazar confirmed that the victim, identified as 31-year-old Albert Anthony Soliz, was found dead on January 26 in the 9500 block of S WW White Road. Responding to a report of a man lying in the street with signs of trauma, deputies discovered that Soliz had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Despite the efforts of emergency medical services, Soliz was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving investigators with a challenging homicide case to solve. However, their breakthrough came when they connected the vehicle used in a separate robbery to the one witnessed near the location where Soliz’s body was found.

Based on this crucial piece of evidence, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office initiated a surveillance operation at a residence in SE Bexar County, located approximately two miles from the homicide scene. Two days after the discovery of Soliz’s body, deputies observed James Guerra leaving the property and decided to follow him.

However, Guerra refused to comply with the deputies’ attempt to stop his vehicle, resulting in a high-speed pursuit that ultimately ended in a crash. Eventually, law enforcement managed to take Guerra into custody, charging him with evading arrest.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Guerra was already a suspect in a robbery case being handled by the San Antonio Police Department. Consequently, a warrant was issued for his arrest while he was in jail for evading law enforcement.

Meanwhile, authorities also identified Matthew Fitzgerald Williams, 18, as a suspect in the same robbery. Sheriff Salazar announced that Williams was apprehended at a residence in east Bexar County on Thursday, following his arrest on the robbery warrant.

Williams was subsequently questioned regarding the homicide of Albert Anthony Soliz. Based on the information provided during the investigation, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office obtained murder warrants for both Guerra and Williams.

These latest developments in the investigation of the murder case underscore the commitment of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office to ensuring justice for the victim, Albert Anthony Soliz. The collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the diligent efforts of the deputies involved have resulted in the apprehension of the two suspects, James Guerra and Matthew Fitzgerald Williams.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to gather additional evidence and build a solid case against the accused individuals. The pursuit of justice remains at the forefront as investigators strive to bring closure to the family and loved ones of Albert Anthony Soliz.
