Despite being behind bars, friends and family of Castillo believe he should be hailed as a hero for his actions during the chaos that ensued after the shooting. The tragic event left one person dead and 22 others injured, leaving many seeking answers.

One witness, Emily Tavis, recounted the harrowing moment when she saw a man with a gun open fire at the rally. She described the shooter as a heavier set male standing behind her before the chaos unfolded.

Bryan Wayne, who witnessed Castillo being apprehended by authorities, captured the moment in a photograph that quickly circulated online. Prior to Castillo’s arrest, only two juveniles had been mentioned as suspects in custody.

Conflicting Accounts

According to charging documents, Castillo, who has a previous felony conviction related to marijuana, was charged with illegal possession of a firearm. However, Castillo and a witness listed in the document claim that the Glock 22 handgun in question did not belong to him.

Legal Proceedings

Castillo is currently being held on a $25,000 bond and is eligible to post 10% for release. As a condition of his bond, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition, consuming alcohol, or using controlled substances without a lawful prescription.
