Details of the Incident

Officers Edgardo Valladares and his partner, both serving in the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), were in the same marked patrol vehicle when they pulled over a driver for a traffic violation. The driver, later identified as 42-year-old Jervon Harper of San Antonio, Texas, was asked to step out of the vehicle after the officers detected the odor of marijuana.

However, Harper refused to comply and instead engaged in a physical altercation with the officers as they tried to detain him. It was during this struggle that one of the officers noticed Harper reaching for a handgun. In fear for their lives, both officers drew their duty weapons. Officer Valladares fired a single round, which tragically struck Harper. He was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Investigation Underway

Officer Valladares, who has been serving with the SAPD for three years, is currently under investigation as part of the standard protocol following officer-involved shootings. The incident has left the community in shock and raised questions about the safety of both law enforcement officers and civilians on the streets of San Antonio.

As the investigation continues, the residents of San Antonio mourn the loss of a life and hope for a resolution that brings clarity and justice to this tragic event.
