Two young individuals have been formally charged in connection to the tragic events that unfolded during Wednesday’s Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade.

“The juveniles are currently being held in secure detention at the Juvenile Detention Center on charges related to firearms and resisting arrest,” stated the Jackson County Family Court Division. “Further charges are expected as the investigation by the Kansas City Police Department progresses.”

The identities of the suspects have not yet been disclosed.

Out of the 22 individuals who sustained injuries from the gunfire, more than half are under the age of 16, according to police reports.

The victims’ ages range from eight to 47 years old.

Tragically, one of the casualties has been identified as local DJ and mother-of-two, Elizabeth Lopez-Galvan.

A fundraising campaign initiated by Ms Lopez-Galvan’s family has raised over $190,000, with a significant contribution from musician Taylor Swift.

On the official fundraising page, Taylor Swift remains the top donor, having contributed $50,000 twice to support the bereaved family, expressing her deepest condolences.

ICYMI: What are Missouri’s gun laws?

Missouri’s gun laws are considered some of the most lenient in the country, with the Giffords Law Center describing them as “appallingly weak.”

No background check is mandated for firearm purchases, nor is a permit required for concealed carry. There is no prohibition on assault weapons.

There are also no restrictions on firearm ownership for individuals with prior convictions for violent crimes, and firearms are not mandated to be securely stored to prevent access by children.

In 2021, Missouri passed a law known as the “Second Amendment Preservation Act,” which rendered federal gun regulations unlawful statewide and prohibited law enforcement from enforcing any federal laws that impinge on the people’s right to bear arms.

ICYMI: Kansas City shooting survivor reveals moment woman apparently begged shooter ‘don’t do it’

Jacob Gooch recounted hearing a woman pleading with the shooter, saying “don’t do it.”

“I personally did not witness the shooter,” Mr Gooch stated. “I heard the commotion of a girl or some girls saying ‘don’t do it, not here, this is stupid’ or something like that. And then the gunshots, which at the time I mistook for fireworks.”

Mr Gooch was shot in the ankle, his wife in the calf, and his son in the foot, he revealed.

The survivor also informed CBS Mornings that he spotted a group of suspicious individuals before the gunfire erupted, though he was uncertain if they were connected to the incident.

“I mean, I grew suspicious of a particular group of people who were present,” Mr Gooch mentioned. “We were positioned on the left side of the stage when the shooting occurred. And just before it happened, there was this group dressed in all black. Around four, five, six individuals in black attire, black masks.”

“They vanished into the crowd and then the incident occurred as soon as we started moving,” he continued.
