Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Public Assistance in Finding Suspect

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is appealing to the public for assistance in locating a man who allegedly injured a sheriff’s deputy during a high-speed chase.

Incident Details

On Thursday, February 15, at approximately 1:34 a.m., a deputy observed a driver running a red light at the intersection of Butler Road and Chatham Heights Road. Upon attempting to initiate a traffic stop, the driver refused to comply, leading to a pursuit.

As the chase unfolded, the driver accelerated on Chatham Heights Road towards Kings Highway, reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Despite attempting to deceive authorities by signalling left but turning right onto Hamilton Street, the pursuing deputies maintained the pursuit.

Ignoring a stop sign at Rodney Lane, the driver proceeded towards the rear of the Chatham Shopping Center. In a dramatic conclusion, the driver collided head-on with a Stafford Sheriff Office cruiser behind the Laundry Basket Laundromat, resulting in minor injuries to a deputy.

Suspect identified

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Elijah Lucas of Stafford. Lucas is wanted on multiple charges, including eluding police, felony hit-and-run, felony assault on law enforcement, driving with a suspended license, driving with an expired registration, driving with an expired inspection, and failure to obey a traffic light.

Public Appeal

Described as a 5-foot-8 Black male weighing approximately 155 pounds, Elijah Lucas remains at large. Members of the public who have any information regarding his whereabouts are urged to contact the Stafford Sheriff’s Office at 540-658-4400.
