Columbia Man Sentenced to Probation for Mystic Pines Shooting

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) – A Columbia man, Deazjon Brown, aged 28, has been sentenced to probation after being accused of a shooting near the Mystic Pines Townhomes on March 14, 2023. Brown pleaded guilty to unlawful gun possession and received a five-year probationary period with a seven-year suspended sentence. Initially facing charges of unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, and illegal gun possession, Brown’s sentence marks the conclusion of this case.

Authorities identified Brown as a suspect in the shooting after an officer spotted his vehicle in the vicinity. Based on court documents obtained during the investigation, it was revealed that Brown had been seen by police officers driving towards another residence in the area while concealing his face and dressed in dark clothing. According to the same records, Brown then proceeded to enter a black Chrysler vehicle. In an attempt to apprehend him, a police officer initiated a traffic stop on Interstate 70. However, Brown did not comply, leading to a high-speed chase that resulted in the suspect evading capture.

On March 20, 2023, a firearm was discovered on the median of Interstate 70, near the Stadium Boulevard exit, in close proximity to the location where the officer had attempted to stop Brown’s vehicle. Ballistic analysis confirmed that the ammunition found at the scene matched the bullets used in the shooting incident.
