KWANIA – Two people have tragically lost their lives, and several others have been severely injured after a truck lost control, resulting in a devastating accident along the Apac-Lira Highway.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:45 am on Friday, as a Fuso truck with the registration number UAX 981Q, loaded with maize grain, veered off the road.

North Kyoga Regional Traffic Officer, Mathias Mulumba Okwir, stated that the truck was transporting maize from Iwal trading center in Atongtidi Sub County to Lira City when the driver lost control in a swamp at Alebe village, Aboko parish in Aduku Sub County. The driver failed to brake, leading to the tragic loss of two lives.

The ill-fated truck had eleven occupants, including the yet-to-be-identified driver.

Among the injured are Ivan Okori and Emma, who hails from Kisoro district. Both individuals were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for immediate medical attention.

As of now, the wreckage of the truck remains at Kwania Central Police Station, awaiting inspection by relevant authorities.

Witnesses Recall Terrifying Moments

One survivor, Jasper Alado, who had been a passenger on the ill-fated truck, attributed the accident to a combination of mechanical breakdown and the driver’s negligence. Alado recalled, “We had to escape through the windscreen. The headlamp had been malfunctioning for some time, and despite the persistent issue, it was never repaired. The driver’s reckless driving might have contributed to this tragic incident.”
