Accident – Death – Obituary News : Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police have recently made significant progress in their investigation into a shooting incident that took place in New Castle. Two suspects have been charged in connection with the incident, which occurred at the New Castle Crossing apartment complex on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 3:31 p.m.

The incident began when patrol officers received a call about a shooting at the apartment complex. Two officers who were already in the vicinity noticed a vehicle speeding away from the scene and attempted to stop it. However, the vehicle refused to comply and ultimately crashed near 295 and New Castle Avenue.

Upon arriving at the crash site, officers discovered that the driver, identified as Adrien Owens, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. They immediately administered first aid and called for an ambulance, which transported Owens to a local hospital. Fortunately, Owens was treated and released back into police custody.

During a search of the crashed vehicle, detectives found a firearm, which further implicated Owens in the shooting. Meanwhile, patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police and troopers from the Delaware State Police worked together to secure the original crime scene, located in the 1600 block of Bassett Avenue in New Castle.

Further investigation revealed that in addition to the apartment complex, a parked vehicle was also struck by gunfire. Officers encountered several disorderly individuals near the crime scene and later learned that a second victim had been taken to Wilmington Manor Fire Company by a private vehicle. The second victim, a 22-year-old male, remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

While officers were attending to the victims and securing the area, they encountered a disorderly individual who was later identified as the second suspect, Carlos Vasquez. Vasquez resisted arrest but was eventually apprehended by patrol officers who were working diligently to address multiple crime scenes.

Thanks to the timely response from patrol officers, the assistance of community members, and a thorough investigation by the Criminal Investigations Unit, both suspects responsible for the shooting have been identified and charged.

Adrien Owens, a 20-year-old resident of New Castle, has been charged with multiple felony counts, including assault in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, reckless endangerment in the first degree, and disregarding a police officer signal. Owens has been arraigned and bail has been set at $115,000. He is currently being held at the Howard R Young Correctional Institution.

Carlos Vasquez, a 21-year-old resident of New Castle, has also been charged with several felony counts, including assault in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, reckless endangerment in the first degree, resisting arrest with force, and act of intimidation to prevent. Additionally, Vasquez has been charged with one misdemeanor count of assault in the third degree. He has been arraigned and bail has been set at $120,000. Vasquez is currently being held at the Howard R Young Correctional Institution.
