Authorities in Mumbai have taken into custody a 70-year-old man in connection with a false threat call made to the police control room. The hoax call alleged the presence of armed terrorists, both men and women, in the Durga area of Dongri and demanded immediate police assistance. The arrest follows a thorough investigation conducted by the Mumbai police.

Preliminary Investigation and Case Details

According to the initial findings, the hoax call was traced back to a public call office (PCO). In response to the call, the police swiftly deployed bomb squad units and sniffer dog teams to the purported location, only to find no evidence of any suspicious activity. The call was subsequently declared a hoax.

Further investigation revealed that the call was made from a PCO booth situated on Samant Bhai Nanji Marg, adjacent to Shafi Masjid. The manager of the booth informed the police that an elderly man with an injured leg had made the call at the specified time. In order to identify the suspect, the police scrutinized CCTV camera footage and circulated his image among their informants. These informants disclosed that the suspect resided in Tagore Nagar, Vikhroli. Upon receiving this information, a police team was dispatched to apprehend the suspect, who was later identified as Bhagwan Bhapkar, also known as Nazrul Sheikh.

Accused Presented Before Court and Granted Bail

On Friday, Bhapkar was produced before the court. Due to his advanced age and deteriorating health condition, he was granted bail on a personal bond. Inspector Mane, who is overseeing the case, stated that the accused appeared to be mentally disoriented and did not harbor any malicious intentions behind the hoax call. Bhapkar has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
