Former Funeral Home Owner Wanted: Investigation Reveals Woman’s Remains and Cremated Boxes

Arrest Warrant Issued for Former Funeral Home Owner

An arrest warrant has been issued for Miles Harford, a former funeral home owner, as an investigation unfolds after the discovery of a woman’s remains and boxes of cremated remains at a house he was renting in Denver. Harford, 33, is now sought out on charges of Abuse of a Corpse, Forgery, and Theft. The Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services, owned by Harford in Littleton, has been closed since September 2022.

Discovery of Human Remains and Cremated Boxes

In early February, Denver police received a call regarding a house in southwest Denver, from which Harford had recently been evicted. The person cleaning the house found boxes containing cremated remains. Upon further investigation, authorities discovered the remains of a woman and additional cremains in a hearse that had been left parked on the property.

Identification of the Deceased

The body found in the hearse was identified as a 63-year-old woman who had passed away in August 2022 due to natural causes. Officials suspect that the body had been concealed in the hearse since shortly after her death. Investigators contacted the woman’s family, who stated that Harford had given them cremains they believed belonged to the deceased. These cremains have now been handed over to the Office of the Medical Examiner for further investigation.

Extent of the Investigation

Authorities have recovered the cremains of approximately 30 individuals so far. It is believed that the earliest death among this group dates back to 2012. At present, there seems to be no connection between this case and the Return to Nature investigation.

Search for the Suspect

Denver police have had previous interactions with Harford and believe he is still in the Denver area. As of the latest update, the charges against Harford are only related to the woman found in the hearse.

Challenges in Identifying Cremated Remains

Due to the difficulty in identifying cremated remains through DNA testing, officials have decided to utilize alternative methods for their identification. The primary goal is to ensure the return of the remains to the families of the deceased.

Call for Information from Affected Families

Authorities have urged anyone who used Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services and did not receive the cremains of their loved ones, or experienced any irregularities or concerns regarding the services provided by the funeral home, to contact the Denver Police Major Crimes Division and Denver Police Victim Assistance Unit.
