Kansas City, Missouri – Two juveniles were charged on Thursday in connection with the shooting incident that occurred at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Jackson County Family Court. According to the police, the shooting incident appears to have stemmed from a dispute between multiple individuals. Kansas City Police Department Chief Stacey Graves stated on Thursday that one person, identified as Elizabeth Galvan, was killed, and at least 22 others were wounded. Police have detained three individuals in relation to the shooting, two of whom are under the age of 18.

Chief Graves revealed that half of the shooting victims are under the age of 16, with the remaining victims ranging in age up to 47. All injured individuals were swiftly transported to three local hospitals: Children’s Mercy, University Health, and Saint Luke’s. Stephanie Meyer, the Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer of Children’s Mercy, provided an update during a news conference on Thursday, stating that the hospital treated 11 children aged 6 to 15, along with one adult. Of those, nine children were treated for gunshot wounds, while the others received medical attention for incidental injuries. Meyer also noted that as of Thursday, only three patients remained hospitalized, and they are expected to make a full recovery.

Due to Missouri law, hearings involving alleged offenses committed by juveniles are not open to the public.

This tragic incident has left the Kansas City community in shock and mourning. Authorities are actively investigating the shooting, and more information is expected to be released as the case progresses. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims and their families during this difficult time.
