MANASSAS, Va. – The community of Manassas is in mourning as they laid to rest Elijah Islam Safadi on Thursday morning. The 23-year-old was tragically stabbed to death inside the JATC/NECA IBEW Local 26 facility on Infantry Ridge Road. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, has left the community in shock and searching for answers.
Prince William County Police were alerted to the stabbing through multiple 911 calls around 3:20 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they were confronted by a suspect armed with a knife. In an effort to protect themselves and others, the officers fired at the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Philip Austin Brant from Woodbridge.
During the investigation, it was discovered that Brant had stabbed two individuals inside the training facility. Sadly, Safadi did not survive his injuries, while the other victim, a 23-year-old man from Fairfax, remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

The JATC/NECA IBEW Local 26 facility has temporarily closed its doors in response to the tragic events. Local 26 posted a video on Facebook addressing the incident and announced the closure, which will last until the end of the week.
The two officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Critical Incident Response (CIRT) team. The officers, who have not been identified, are both members of the uniformed patrol operations and have 5 and 1.5 years of experience, respectively.
