According to the PVAMU Police Department, the fatal altercation ensued when Jazymyn Bill attempted to intervene in a physical fight between her friend and her friend’s boyfriend. In an effort to defuse the situation, Jazymyn sought assistance from her boyfriend, an off-duty security guard.

Tragically, the situation escalated into an argument between Jazymyn’s boyfriend and the friend’s boyfriend. Subsequently, the boyfriend of Jazymyn’s friend, alleged to be the assailant, produced a firearm and opened fire. The off-duty security guard, in an act of self-defense, also drew his weapon and returned fire, resulting in the assailant being struck in the chest.

In the crossfire, Jazymyn Bill was struck by a stray bullet and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Additionally, an innocent bystander sustained a grazing gunshot wound, despite not being directly involved in the altercation. Prompt medical attention was provided to all three individuals who sustained injuries, and they were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The PVAMU Police Department launched an investigation into the incident, during which it was discovered that two suspects had fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement. The authorities apprehended Courtlyn Thomas and Tamia Thibeaux shortly after at a Buc-ee’s convenience store located on Highway 290, approximately 8 miles away from the apartment complex.

The PVAMU Police Department has not provided specific details regarding the involvement of the two suspects in the shooting incident. However, Courtlyn Thomas is currently facing murder charges, while Tamia Thibeaux has been charged with tampering with evidence.

Authorities have emphasized that the shooting incident is believed to be a result of a domestic dispute. The tragic event has shocked the Prairie View A&M University community, grieving the loss of a vibrant and talented student.
