Holly was charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, and illegal use of a weapon, according to Union Parish Sheriff Dusty Gates.

Holly turned himself in on Thursday and was subsequently booked at the Union Parish Detention Center. The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities suspect the involvement of another shooter. Sheriff Gates stated that the other suspect has not yet been identified but expects “additional arrests” to be made.

Following the arrest, LSU released a statement announcing Holly’s indefinite suspension from the team. The university stated, “We are aware that a student-athlete has been arrested in relation to a shooting in Union Parish. This student-athlete has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities, in accordance with departmental policies. Out of respect for the judicial process, we will have no further comment.”

Trey Holly had a successful freshman season at LSU, rushing 11 times for 110 yards and scoring one touchdown. In fact, he was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after an impressive debut against Army, where he rushed for 91 yards, including a remarkable 67-yard touchdown run, on October 21.

Prior to joining LSU, Holly set a Louisiana high school record at Union Parish High, accumulating an impressive 10,523 career rushing yards over five years. His remarkable achievements led him to be recruited as a four-star prospect in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Holly utilized a redshirt season after participating in only three games during his freshman year. With his potential and determination, he had a genuine opportunity to secure more playing time this upcoming fall season. However, following his arrest and subsequent suspension, his future with the team remains uncertain.
