Local Radio Host Killed in Deadly Mass Shooting at Kansas City Chiefs Parade Identified

A woman who tragically lost her life in the deadly mass shooting that occurred at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade has been identified as Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a local radio host, according to her employer, radio station KKFI. The authorities have yet to officially release the names of the victims, but KKFI confirmed the devastating news on social media.

In a statement, KKFI expressed their deep sorrow, saying, “This senseless act has taken a beautiful person from her family and this KC Community.” The incident has left the local community shocked and mourning the loss of a beloved radio personality.

Tragically, the shooting resulted in numerous casualties, with at least 21 people being wounded, including children and teenagers, as confirmed by authorities. Among the injured were eight individuals with immediately life-threatening injuries, seven with life-threatening injuries, and six with minor injuries, according to Ross Grundyson, the chief of the Kansas City Fire Department.

Lisa Lopez-Galvan, known by her DJ name as “Lisa G,” was not only a radio host but also an extroverted individual and a devoted mother. Childhood friends and colleagues Rosa Izurieta and Martha Ramirez, who worked with her at a staffing company, shared their memories of her with the Associated Press. They described Lopez-Galvan as a vibrant personality who attended the parade with her husband and adult son, both avid Kansas City sports fans. Unfortunately, her son was also injured in the shooting.

The tragic incident occurred near Union Station in Kansas City, marking the end of the Kansas City Chiefs’ triumphant Super Bowl victory parade. Shortly after the shooting, law enforcement took three individuals into custody, and one firearm has been recovered, according to reports.

Lopez-Galvan had been a private DJ for more than 15 years and began hosting her show, “Taste of Tejano,” in March 2022, as stated on her bio on KKFI’s website. Her biography reflects her passion for music, describing it as a source of happiness and a form of therapy for many.

Lisa Lopez, a longtime friend of no relation who works at the Kansas City Star, expressed her sorrow over the loss, saying, “She was a local DJ. She did everybody’s weddings. We all know her. She was so full of life.”

The tragic incident has deeply affected the local community, and the loss of Lisa Lopez-Galvan has left a void in the hearts of many. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
