Shooting at Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Victory Rally Not Terrorism, Say Authorities

Authorities have confirmed that the shooting incident at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory rally was not an act of terrorism or homegrown violent extremism. Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves stated that the incident appeared to be a dispute between multiple individuals that escalated into gunfire.

Chief Graves also revealed that two juveniles were among those detained in connection to the shooting. The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities have 24 hours to either file charges or release the detained individuals.

The shooting tragically resulted in the death of one person, while over 20 others, including children, sustained injuries. Chief Graves highlighted that the victims ranged in age from 8 to 47, with at least half of them being under the age of 16. Fortunately, none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

A spokesperson from University Health Truman informed Scripps News Kansas City that two individuals, presumably adults, remain in critical condition as a result of the shooting.

The woman who lost her life in the incident has been identified as Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a DJ at a local radio station in Kansas City. Her untimely demise has left the community in shock and mourning.

The shooting occurred as the parade rally, which reportedly attracted nearly 1 million people, was drawing to a close. Video footage shared on social media captured the moment when a group of individuals tackled one of the possible suspects and held them on the ground until the arrival of law enforcement. Trey Filter, one of the witnesses, revealed that his wife Casey even managed to grab the suspect’s gun while helping to restrain him.

Casey Filter stated, “Once I picked it up, I realized it was a real gun, and so I just moved it. Honestly, it was just a reaction. I didn’t feel like I needed to run away. I saw my husband subduing the guy, and then my kids, I was worried about where my kids were. It was just a very chaotic moment.”
