Homeless Man Arrested in Long Beach for Stealing Car with Child Inside

Long Beach, United Kingdom – In a shocking incident, a homeless man was apprehended by authorities on Tuesday night for allegedly stealing a car with a 4-year-old boy inside. The incident prompted an immediate Amber Alert, causing panic and concern in the community.

The suspect, identified as Timothy Wood, 34, was quickly captured near the intersection of Pine Avenue and Shoreline Drive in Long Beach at approximately 10:30 p.m. The Long Beach Police Department, along with county jail records, confirmed the arrest.

The distressing incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday when a father reported the theft of his 2021 Honda Accord, which he had left running near First Street and Linden Avenue. To his horror, his 4-year-old son, Justin Chan, was inside the vehicle at the time of the theft, triggering an immediate Amber Alert across the area.

In a heartwarming turn of events, the Amber Alert reached the phones of two local women who wasted no time in actively searching for the stolen car. Reagan Dunn, one of the women, said, “We received an Amber Alert on our phones and decided to take action.” Their determined efforts paid off when they spotted the vehicle and verified its license plate. Dunn promptly dialed 911, leading to the recovery of the stolen car with the child safely secured inside. The heartbroken father was soon reunited with his relieved son.

According to the authorities, the suspect, Wood, abandoned the stolen vehicle and fled the scene on foot. However, with the aid of security footage, law enforcement officers were able to track his direction and successfully apprehend him.

Wood now faces serious charges including kidnapping, child endangerment, and vehicle theft. He is currently being held in custody with bail set at £100,000.
